dreams are bizarre

So, I had the weirdest dream last night.  For it to make any sense, I should first explain that, at my school, the faculty are required to be there by 8 am.  First period doesn’t start until 8:30 am.  Periods are about 45 minutes long and are separated by 5 or 10 minute breaks.

Okay, so, in my dream, it’s morning and I’m going to work.  But for some reason I’m running really late and I figure it’s okay since I don’t have first period.  On my way to my second period class, I stop in some classroom to get something.  But, when I walk in there, a bunch of juniors and seniors are there watching these people who seem to be part of a circus and are doing weird tricks (note:  the room is, for some reason, at least two stories tall and the back of the room has this weird platform or sommat halfway up).  The tricks are somehow mesmerizing, which is why the students are all watching intently.

Of course, this won’t do, so I ask them to leave.  But somehow they’ll only leave if I go eat with them and the students.  So we all go get in cars and caravan to some restaurant that has the vague outer appearance of a Denny’s.  At some point before arriving at this restaurant, a friend of mine shows up in the dream.

When we get to the restaurant, I guess enough time has passed that I am no longer mesmerized by the circus people (or whatever they are), so I suddenly  realize that I’m missing my second period class.  Fortunately, I don’t have third period, so I figure I have enough time to get back to the school in time for fourth period.  So, my friend and I hop in my car and start driving back to the school.  But we’re in some weird part of town that I’ve never been to before and that involves highways and things on the return trip, so basically we’re lost and driving down some freeway.

Traffic is really bad, so I’m going slowly in the right hand lane, and then suddenly the car behind us rear-ends us.  But I don’t realize it right away because apparently something about the impact causes me to black out momentarily.  And, when I wake up, bunches and bunches of people are all involved in wrecks around us.  At which point I realize that I’m pretty much not making it to work at all AND I have yet to let the school know anything about why I haven’t shown up yet.  Then I wake up.

I don’t know what this dream signifies, but I do know that I woke up 30 minutes before my alarm and that I did go work out again today, making that four times this week.

Tomorrow is a very different day at school — it’s our annual arts festival.  I’m doing a handbell workshop, which I have never done before.  I’m feeling a bit anxious about the whole thing, actually.  So, best not to think about it too much.
